Get Ahead! Participate in the E-Summer Program @ NOVA!

HACU and Dominion Energy logoThe E-Summer Program @ NOVA  is sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) and Dominion Energy as part of HACU’s Building Hispanic Talent Initiative (BHTI). This program is designed to introduce students to STEM careers, including careers in the energy industry. This program is open to rising juniors and seniors who meet the VCCS readiness standards for enrollment defined below. Students will earn college credit, learn from industry leaders, and visit a local facility to learn more about careers in STEM.

The E-Summer program is located at the Woodbridge campus and runs for 6-weeks from Monday, July 7 – Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Classes meet in person, on campus, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch is provided.

Important Dates

  • Application Opens: Monday, March 3, 2025
  • Application Closes:  Friday, May 2, 2025 at 5pm.
  • Courses begin: Monday, July 7, 2025
  • Courses end: Wednesday, August 13, 2025

Students must be rising juniors (11th grade) or rising seniors (12th grade).

Students must meet dual enrollment readiness requirements as outlined by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).

Students must provide evidence of one (1) qualifying score:

  • High school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (via transcript); or
  • PSAT EBRW score of 390 or higher; or
  • SAT EBRW score of 480 or higher; or
  • ACT English/Reading score of 18 or higher; or
  • Virginia Placement Test placement into ENG 111.

A current high school transcript is required.

Space is limited. If selected to participate in the summer program, students will be notified by Monday, May 12, 2025.

Step 1: Apply to NOVA

  • Complete your application to NOVA and select your admit term as Summer 2025.
  • Be sure to copy your EMPLID, username, and password for future reference.
  • If you have already applied to NOVA, please skip to Step 2.

Step 2: Complete your E-Summer Program Application

  • Application is open from March 3 – May 2.
  • Go to DualEnroll. First-time users must create an account using a personal email address and a new username and password. This is not the same as your NOVA login credentials from your NOVA application.
  • Returning users should log into their existing DualEnroll account.
  • Select "E-Summer Program Summer 2025" as your term (top left in Course Selection).
  • Students must take both classes and do not have the option to take just one. You will select the course combination: CSC 221 / SDV 100.
  • All applicants must upload a current high school transcript and any additional qualifying score reports if they are using test scores to qualify.
  • All applicants must have parent or guardian approval to participate in the program.

Step 3: Check your email for updates on your E-Summer Program application

  • We will send email updates as we process your application. A timely response is required. All steps and required documents must be submitted before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2024.
  • Space is limited. Students will be notified by Monday, May 12, 2025 if selected to participate. Students are selected by a lottery system. All completed applications submitted by the deadline (Friday, May 2) are considered. Confirmation of attendance is due by Friday, May 23, 2025.

Students are expected to attend class in person during each scheduled session. The program runs for 6 weeks, from Monday, July 7 – Wednesday, August 13, 2025, and meets at the Woodbridge Campus on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Lunch is provided.

Accommodations & Accessibility
Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), disability services are available if you are currently enrolled, have a documented disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, and are otherwise academically qualified. To request services in a NOVA class, apply online through NOVA’s Accommodations and Accessibility Services.

College Transcript
By enrolling in the E-Summer Program @ NOVA, you are starting or continuing an official college transcript. You will be required to share this transcript with every college or university to which you may later apply.

High School Transcript
A current high school transcript is required to complete your E-Summer Program @ NOVA application.

Laptop Loaner Program
Students are eligible for NOVA’s Laptop Loaner Program.

Parking on Campus
A student parking pass will be provided to students who drive to campus for the summer session. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation.

Textbook and Course Materials
Textbooks and course materials are provided to students at no cost through All Access.
