Reporting Sexual Assault at NOVA
NOVA Police will respond promptly to any report of sexual assault that occurs on any NOVA campus. The College has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual assault or abuse in any form. We encourage all students, faculty, and staff who experience sexual assault or abuse on campus to report the incident to NOVA Police immediately.
If the incident occurred off-campus, please report it to the police department in that jurisdiction. For assistance contacting an external police department, call the NOVA Police non-emergency line at 703.764.5000. You can also view NOVA's Sexual Misconduct Policy.
What to Do if a Sexual Assault Occurs
If a sexual assault occurs, follow these steps:
- Get to a Safe Place: Move to a safe location as soon as possible.
- Call 911: Notify the authorities. If the incident occurred on a NOVA campus, contact NOVA Police at 703.764.5000. College faculty and staff members can assist you in reporting the incident.
- Preserve Evidence: Try to preserve all physical evidence. Avoid bathing or changing clothes.
- Seek Medical Attention: Get medical help as soon as possible.
- Contact a Support Person: Contact someone who can stay with you and provide support.
