Ensure you click the "Validate Email" button to proceed. This will send a validation code to your email, which must be entered to continue.

Leave this blank unless your name has been legally changed since birth. If your name has changed, enter your previous legal name.

A Tax ID number is not required if you have a Social Security Number (SSN). If you have an SSN, leave the Tax ID field blank.

  • If you plan to complete the FAFSA, NOVA requires your SSN. It is recommended that you wait to submit your application until you can provide your SSN.
  • If you do not have an SSN or Tax ID number, select "I do not have a SSN" and proceed.

Yes. If you complete the application without an SSN, you will need to submit documentation, including:

Your expected completion date is the month and year of your high school graduation (e.g., 06/2024).

Review NOVA’s Programs of Study in the catalog. Your program of study may always be changed later by an advisor.

  • If you’re unsure what you’d like to study, select "AS General Studies" under the Social Sciences area of study. Update this selection as soon as you decide on your academic and career goals.
  • Note: Allied health or nursing programs are competitive admit programs that require prerequisites. If you select one of these, your major will default to "AS Health Sciences."

  • If your parent(s) is actively serving, you are considered their DEPENDENT.
  • If your parent(s) has served in the military but is no longer active, provide their discharge or retirement date.

  • Native US Citizen – you were born in the United States or born abroad to a US citizen
  • Naturalized Citizen – you were born outside of the US and became a US citizen at a later date
  • Permanent Resident of the US – you have permanent residency status in the US
  • Currently in the US as a Non-Immigrant – see below for further information

Enter your Permanent Resident (PR) card number in the appropriate field. If your parent is also a Permanent Resident, you must provide their PR card number during the in-state tuition portion of the application.

  • If you are under 24, select "I wish to claim eligibility using my parent’s domicile."
  • Only select "legal guardian" if someone other than your parent(s) has legal custody of you.

Note on In-State Tuition Eligibility:

  • If you do not hold formal status in the US, you may qualify for the Tuition Equity Provision. Review the qualifications and contact NOVA for assistance.
  • If you have a legal status (e.g., citizenship or permanent residency) but your parent(s) does not, you may still apply for in-state tuition. Contact your campus’ Admissions and Records Office for guidance.
