Comprehensive Program for Aspiring Phlebotomists
The Career Studies Certificate in Phlebotomy is a one semester 16-credit program designed to prepare personnel who collect and process blood, medical laboratory analysis in adults and children by venipuncture or micro techniques. Phlebotomists are important members of the laboratory team who demonstrate good communication skills and ethical behavior for an effective interaction with patients and their families. Graduates are eligible to sit for national examinations to become certified as a Phlebotomy Technicians.

The program is designed to prepare personnel who collect and process blood and other samples for medical laboratory analysis. Phlebotomists work in hospitals, medical clinics, commercial laboratories, and in other settings where blood is collected from patients. The curriculum includes learning experiences in both on-campus laboratories and affiliated clinical laboratories. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national examination to become certified as a phlebotomy technician.

Program Details
Phlebotomists are prepared to perform various blood collection procedures in adults and children by venipuncture or micro techniques. They are important laboratory team members who demonstrate good communication skills and ethical behavior for effective interaction with patients and their families. The curriculum includes courses in the areas of communication, healthcare information systems, medical terminology, ethics for healthcare personnel and the core phlebotomy didactic and clinical courses. Course delivery modes include Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and other tools. Simulations, laboratory activities and clinical training will provide proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
