ANNANDALE, VA. (Feb. 25, 2025) -- Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is honored to be a Fulbright Top Producing Institution once again.

  • For the 2024-2025 academic year, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has again recognized NOVA as a top producer of U.S. Fulbright scholars.

Northern Virginia Community College is proud to be recognized alongside our distinguished institutional peers and celebrates the remarkable achievements of our many Fulbright scholars," said Anne M. Kress, president of NOVA. “We are grateful to the Fulbright program for providing our faculty with this powerful professional development opportunity. Our Fulbright recipients return to our college with valuable experiences, insights and knowledge that enrich student learning and positively impact our community.”

For the 2024-2025 academic year, NOVA’s Kelly Hebron, Esq., a professor of paralegal studies at the Alexandria Campus, was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. Hebron joins the list of numerous previous NOVA recipients, including faculty and staff. Community college students are not eligible for the student program, since it requires a bachelor's degree.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Fulbrighters exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections, and work to address complex global challenges.

Applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program at NOVA receive support from Abbey Jones, the Fulbright Scholar liaison and associate director of specialty programs. Jones passionately advocates for increasing award opportunities to community colleges. “We are grateful to the Fulbright community for their expanding collaboration with community colleges nationwide. We are proud to be a part of this network that brings significant contributions back to our local community,” she said.

Fulbright is a program of the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the Program.

Fulbright alumni have included 44 heads of state or government, 62 Nobel Laureates, 90 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows, and countless leaders and changemakers.
