In Partnership with HACU and Dominion Energy, NOVA Accepting Applications for Summer Bridge Program

June 16, 2022

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is now accepting applications for a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Summer Bridge Program at the Manassas Campus that will begin Monday, June 27, 2022. The Summer Bridge Program is for students looking to get ahead and earn STEM college credits over the summer free of charge. Classes offered will be in a hybrid format – on-campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and asynchronous online work on Tuesdays and Thursdays that allows students to learn on their own schedule.

The Summer Bridge Program, sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) and Dominion Energy, aims to increase opportunities for Hispanic and other minority students looking to pursue education in a STEM field.

Students will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited. Students will take two courses ITE-115 (Introduction to Computer Applications and Concepts) and SDV-100 (College Success Skills), earning four college credits over the five-week program. Tuition, fees, books and classroom materials will be covered through the program.

“All students should have access to a quality education and be provided with the skills to achieve exciting new career opportunities," said Carter Reid, executive vice president and chief of staff for Dominion Energy. "This is a step toward improving equity for Hispanic students and increasing diversity in STEM careers.”

In addition to course content, Summer Bridge students will hear from industry speakers to learn more about the STEM fields and career opportunities and will visit NOVA’s FabLab Makerspace. Lunch will be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays.
