RECREATION AND PARKS
Associate in Applied Science Degree AN
Purpose: The curriculum is designed to prepare students for
entry level into the field of recreation and parks in both private
and public agencies; provide those already employed in this field
an opportunity to improve and upgrade their skills; and guide
students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution in Recreation
and Parks. Occupational objectives include recreation leader,
assistant recreation supervisor, park ranger, assistant park
manager, and park manager.
Recommended Preparation: Proficiency in high school English
and background in basic arithmetic operations.

1 Students may substitute
a higher-level math. Consult a faculty advisor to make the appropriate
selection.
2 The PED requirement
may be met by one of the following options: PED 116, 2 cr.; PED
116, 1 cr. plus a PED activities course, 1 cr.; or PED 116, 1
cr. plus RPK 205, 216, or 225. PED 116 is offered as both a 1-credit
and a 2-credit course.
3 The social science
elective may be selected from the following: economics, geography,
history, political science, psychology, or sociology (includes
anthropology).
4 All courses in the
RPK listing in this catalog will be considered approved recreation
electives.
5 Humanities/fine arts
