NOVA Partners With NFTE for First Annual Entrepreneurship Summit

NOVA in partnership with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), opened its doors in November to five local high schools for its first ever Annual Entrepreneurship Summit.

The goal of the summit was to inspire young students to be entrepreneurial in their careers and lives.

The event took place on NOVA’S Alexandria Campus and featured keynote speaker, Tony Crescenzo, an entrepreneur and partner for Achievence LLC.

Mr. Crescenzo spoke to the students about his upbringing, his rise to leadership and the obstacles he faced along the way.

“Being an entrepreneur is about having a vision. It’s about being able to take risks and understanding that failure is a part of the learning process,” said Crescenzo.

Panelists included Bob Rogers, chief executive officer of Chesapeake Center, Jason Panda, president of Zippyjobs and Vera Zakem, senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc.

Students asked questions to the panelists that ranged from the downturned economy to the new incoming administration’s policies and how this will affect their businesses.

After the panel discussion ended, NOVA gave out prizes to several of the students including three iPods. The event concluded with the students being given a tour of the Alexandria Campus.
