ADVANCED RESPIRATORY THERAPY PRACTITIONER (Effective
- Summer 2006)
Career Studies Certificate MEC
Purpose: This option is designed to increase the clinical
skill and knowledge of the certified respiratory therapist in
the management of the critically ill patient. Additional skills
in cardiopulmonary diagnostics, evaluation and modification of
therapy and neonatal and pediatric respiratory care are taught
at the Advanced Respiratory Therapy Practitioner level. Upon
successful completion of the program, students are eligible to
take the Advanced Respiratory Therapy Practitioner examinations
leading to registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
(RRT).
Eligibility: All students must be graduates of an approved respiratory
therapy AA, AAS or AS degree program, hold a current certified
respiratory therapist (CRT) credential and be licensed to practice
in the Commonwealth of Virginia (RCP).
Students must comply with all General Admission Requirements
for Allied Health Programs. (See page 104.)
Completion Requirements: Students must comply with
all Continuation Requirements for Allied Health and Nursing
Students. (see page 105).
Special Accreditation Status: The program is accredited
by the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Committee on Accreditation
for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
