Program Details
Students are prepared to transfer to a college or university to major in Psychology. Specifically, students should demonstrate the following skills. Students will: (1) demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and empirical findings to discuss how psychological principles apply to behavioral phenomena; (2) develop knowledge and skills in the methods of scientific inquiry and critical thinking; (3) demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to a psychologist’s ethical responsibility in work and society; (4) demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to a psychologist’s social responsibility to multicultural and global concerns; and (5) demonstrate written and/or oral communication skills on topics within the study of psychology.
Accreditations
Northern Virginia Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the associate degree in psychology. NOVA's program is also aligned with APA Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major.
