Regatorgnition

Got a note yesterday from the website Regator.com, saying that they like NOVA Geoblog.

I've never heard of Regator before. Anybody else in the geoblogosphere getting such a note? There are several of us featured on their website under "geology": Lounge of the Lab Lemming, Hypo-theses, Harmonic Tremors, Andrew's Geology Blog at About.com, Olelog, Looking for Detachment, All My Faults Are Stress-Related, Magma Cum Laude, Oakland Geology, Arizona Geology, and Highly Allochthonous. (my apologies if I missed anyone)

I got a note, also. They do have a decent batch of us. On other sites like that, there usually isn't much geology, or it's hard to find. I think their long summary could be a bit shorter - for short posts, the long summary shows the whole post. And they never seem to show any of my photos, though they often show one of yours!

I had never heard of them before, either.

I'd never heard of them, either. I didn't give the site much of a chance - typed it into my browser, found that it loaded slowly (or maybe with too many scripts - I used a script blocker), and went off to work on something else.

If they're including enough blogs to give sense of the variety, though, it sounds like they're doing something useful.

Yeah, the page loaded slowly, or not at all, the first time I clicked on the link in the email - it loads faster, now, for whatever reason.

I got one too - haven't had much chance to look at the website, but it looks like an interesting aggregator. I figure it'll maybe bring some more traffic to the blogs, at any rate. The email did look like a bit of a form letter, though.

I got one too, definitely a form letter ... never heard of them, says their the 'most selective blog directory' on the web. I haven't had any time to check out their site though. But whatever brings more people to geo blogs is probably good.

Hi! This is Scott one of the co-founders of Regator.

We're only 4 months old so that may be why you haven't heard about us until now. Despite being fairly new, we have been featured on many of the top tech blogs (TechCrunch, Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, etc) multiple times for our different approach to bringing together the best blog posts and blogs. It's our goal to make it easy for people, even if they have no idea about RSS and blogs to find great blog content.

Even though we are brand new, we are currently in the Final 3 in the Social News category in the Mashable Open Web Awards, having beaten out Digg.com and Mixx.com to get there. As you can imagine this level of recognition so early on is really exciting for us, and great for the blogs on the site. (http://mashable.com/2008/12/03/openwebawards2-final-voting-round/). You can also see more about what bloggers are saying about us at http://regator.com/press.

Kim, our site is JavaScript based and uses AJAX extensively, so if you have scripts turned off the site will not work, as it would not with many other "web 2.0" sites. We will look to make some changes shortly that make that more clear. Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately, with well over 3500 blogs on the site, it is virtually impossible for our 3 person startup to personally write to all of our bloggers individually to let them know about their inclusion and what we're about. We wish we could! But please know that a qualified editor (M.A. in Linguistics/Magazine Editor) came across your blog and determined it was a quality blog and great for Regator.

We’d love to get your feedback, so if you have any questions or comments about the site please let us know. You can contact me at scott*at*regator*dot*com or by phone at 404-693-5121.

Cheers!

I had in fact noticed that Regator sent visitors my way, which I don't mind :)

A big welcom to Regator and much success.

Olelog, I'm glad to hear we've sent some traffic your way. I wanted to email you yesterday as well to tell you that you were selected for the site but I couldn't find an address. Glad to find you here. Thanks for the well wishes!

I see their master list has 18 blogs at the moment, all worthy.
