R.I.P., Michael Crichton
The author Michael Crichton died yesterday. He gave us Jurassic Park; He also wrote a novel based on the idea that global warming was a hoax (State of Fear). A mixed bag, but he'll be remembered for Jurassic Park. I've read everything he's written except for the global warming book. My favorite was non-fiction: Travels. Check it out.

To be fair, State of Fear followed his normal narrative template of all scientists being closet meglomaniacs. It only became a problem because a certain US administration thought that writing a hyperventilating conspiracy about how all climate scientists were actually ecoterrorists* actually qualified you as an expert on climate science in reality. I'm not sure that was entirely his fault.
*and socialists, of course.
And of course in Travels he outs himself as either a loon or comfortable enough portraying himself as one to the public so as to render the distinction meaningless.
