Beer is bad for science?

The Freakonomics blog draws our attention today to a new study suggesting that beer consumption and low publication records are correlated. Hmmm.

Counterpoint: I published more when I used to drink more... maybe I need to take up the bottle again.

But what about the beer can experiment?

I do like the "maybe they are drowning their sorrows" observation. This is only a correlation, not a causation. Perhaps the other (sober-ish) scientists just spend more time in a lab, or editing their works. As far as my experience goes. It is easier to study when you were too young to be invited to the bars.

So, let's not blame beer Czech study.
