As someone who works on fluvial geomorphology/sedimentology my first thought on this map was "how cool", rather than "how weird".
It is an amazing figure! Ol' Fisk put some work into that one, lemme tell you.
You can get all of Fisk 1944 (both the text as well as ALL the plates) at the Lower Miss. Valley Engineering Geology website. There is a link to their page at my blog, but I'll make it easier on everyone and just give you guys the URL.
