Lola meets the geology of Maryland
When she sees a geologic map of the eastern U.S., my cat Lola attempts to impress me by lining herself up with the trend of Appalachian structure. While noble in intent, she's not especially accurate. In the photo below, you can tell that she's off by about 20 degrees. Based on this, I conclude that cats have no natural instinct for structural geology. She can't use a Brunton compass, either.

Maybe she's trying to depict an exotic terrane.
I'm also amused, because Chuck down at W&M also has a gray cat named Lola. Perhaps it's a requirement for structural geologists?
Really? That's quite a coincidence. My Lola came named that way from the SPCA. ("Lola gets what Lola wants..." as the song goes.)
My cats also have the noble intention of attempting to show me how much they're really interested in what they're named after (they're littermates - a silver tabby named Andreas and an all black one named Garlock) by getting on top of whatever I'm trying to read. But I suspect there is also an element of, "Why would you want to read about that Andreas when I'm much cuter!" involved.
