Special Programs for High School Students
If you have not yet earned a high school diploma or its equivalent and you are under the age of 18, you may be able to attend the College under certain conditions. Dual Enrollment means concurrently taking courses in both high school and college. Some of your NVCC College courses may fulfill Virginia high school graduation requirements if you have prior written approval from both your high school principal and your parent or guardian. In some cases the College has existing dual enrollment arrangements with local public schools whereby the college credits you earn may be applied toward your high school diploma while you also receive college credit.
Tech Prep & Career Pathways combines the best things about academic and career and technical high school education. The result is a credit bearing program with one primary goal in mind: helping students get better jobs, for better pay. Students are given the opportunity to explore careers, receive training in today's technologies, and get real-world experience. It all adds up to a seamless secondary to post-secondary education, beginning in high school and ending with an associate degree in college.
Express Track to Career Opportunities
The Path to Industry Certification is for seniors who are U.S. citizens and Virginia residents, are not planning to continue their education beyond high school, and have not completed a sequence of Career and Technical Education courses. This initiative provides an opportunity for students to complete tuition-paid technical preparation at the community college level that leads to industry certification or state licensure.
The Bridge Partnership is a project of the League for Innovation in the Community College. Community colleges and high schools work together to increase the number of students who aspire to go on to college, to accelerate their preparation and smooth the transition to college entry and success. Sixty-five community colleges and over 90 high schools in 20 states are participating.
